Garnet Fornof's notes state that she received the marriage certificate of Samuel and Mary: Samuel Thompson married Mrs. Mary Thompson, Berlin Ohio, September 11, 1838, by P.B. Barber, Minister, Methodist Episcopal Church. This indicates that Mary was married previously, perhaps to Samuel's brother.
